Back row (l-r): Laurel, Tara, Marie, Ashley, Tracy, Debbie, Chrissy, Sarah, Manon.
Front row (l-r): Hope, Karen, Divya, Jax (with trophy), Megan, Mary, Amy.

(Recap from Marie (the woman who was a handler, a middle, and a long - herself, not to mention her incredible on-fire D!!!)).

Despite no Chriss, Dara, Tina, Jessica, Wendy, Faye, Rachel or Anne (all of whom would have helped us inmeasureably)...POUNCE WON R.U.B.!!!!!

I'm the worst person to give the recap, since I never remember team names or scores (so someone else might be able to fill in that info).

Suffice to say that we beat a full-strength Urge (Toronto) in the finals, 12-11. After going down to Urge 4-1, we came back to win the hlaf. Then they rallied to bring the score to 11-11, and, in a truly nail biting finish, KT hit Jax on a big yardage gainer upfield; Jax winged a bender huck to Megan in the end zone, and Megan snagged it over the head of her defender to win the game. It was an exciting conclusion to an excellent tournament, where everyone played phenomenally well.

Jax was inspiring and calm (except when she was chewing the head off an Urge player who mistook ultimate for tackle football), and the clear MVP of the tournament, demoralizing the poor Miami team, whose deep game she single-handedly eliminated.
Hope caught everything remotely near her, and threw some gorgeous benders for goals; she also played her usual tenacious defense, and layed out a gazillion times, leaving much of her epidermis on the field.
Megan was a stud as a popper, and an unbeatable deep (any more questions about that 6 ranking, Meg???).
Tracy snagged impossible throws under tremendous defensive pressure, and played consistantly O'Lare-like (calm and intense at the same time).
Mary was a steady middle, with awesome continue cutes and reliable throws.
Divya was HUGE in the end zone, bringing down catch after catch with defenders climbing up her back (she was also a layout queen and a rock-solid handler, making her perhaps the most versatile player of the tourney).
Laurel made much-needed break side cuts to the disc, and threw some beautiful passes for goals.
Sarah powered her cuts to the disc, and made snags that would have otherwise been D-ed.
Manon ruled the end zone, and came up with some killer blocks, despite feeling sick most of the day Saturday.
Ashley popped like Orville Redenbacher, crashing the cup with precision, and playing consistently strong D.
Chrissy was a monster in the air, making improbable grabs behind her and over her head, and doing some of the prettiest zone handling you're ever likely to see.
Debbie Baird, lately off the wounded list, was a stellar defender, with numerous blocks to her credit, a layout catch in the endzone, and dead-solid handling throughout the weekend.
Karen Thorne is the rock she always is, the steadiest handler on the field, and the tallest short defender known to man; she came through big in the big games under intense wind.
Tara was flawless all weekend, running beautiful deep cuts, and making a number of dramatic high grabs.
Amy was not only a calm and reliable handler, but also filled in for Chriss in the nobody-catches-a-deep-throw-over-me role; she was tremendous.

The win was a definate team effort, and everyone came through big. I guess it doesn't get any better than winning the tournament, but just think of how much more damage we woulda done if we'd had the whole team!
Way to go, Pounce! We're on our way. (P.S. Our name has been added to a big ol' trophy, and we won 15 tourney champion shirts!!!)

Sectionals
September 14-15, 2002
Lehigh, PA
1st Place

Here's the short version. Only three points were scored on us in our first five games. What was notable about these games is that we played them intensely.

Our semi-finals game was against Electric Mayhem from New Jersey. They were the first real competition we'd had, and we rose to the challenge. Much of this game was played in rain and wind, and we did a nice job of adjusting to the weather and getting our throwing and catching working despite a slippery disc. I forget the score of that game. Anyone know? I don't think it was very close. While we were playing Electric Mayhem, Philly was beating Penn State handily, and thus came into the finals game without much intensity, whereas we were focused, warmed-up, and stoked from the previous game. Our excellent defense (particularly the clam) jangled their nerves and caused all sorts of Pepper errors, while our offense flowed. We played hard throughout the game, refusing to give an inch, and maintained our lead throughout, eventually trouncing them 15-8. Everyone played so consistently well all weekend that it's hard to identify any particular superstars: the whole freakin' team was (as Ashley would put it) RED HOT!

I think Sectionals shows that (while we can take absolutely nothing at Regionals for granted), when we warm up enough and want it bad enough, we can do pretty much anything we set our collective fecal feline mind to. Onwards and upwards, Pahnce!
