Summer League Structure Voting Results

Points of agreement:
* Number of Leagues - 1
* Number of Teams - 18 or 20, depending on number of players who sign up.
* Put together a rankings committee prior to the draft to objectively evaluate rankings. Have a Summer League commissioner (or both) on this committee.
* If there is to be a ranking appeal process, that process MUST include communication between the commissioners, the appealer AND the ranking committee.
* Appoint or get a volunteer to head up the Captain Recruiting team to recruit captains. Have this group ensure that non-experienced captains are (if we go with captain pairs) paired with veteran captains.
* Field Space/Number of Games - depending on the number of teams and available field space, 20 teams could result in a 19-game schedule. The number of games will be determined at a later date.
* Team Formation - continue to use the draft in its current form.

Results of Voting

The votes have been tallied (see CPU meeting Minutes for details), and the following has been decided:

1) Captain Recruitment and Pairing
a) Eliminate the need for Adam/Eve captain pairs and have one captain per team. The captain's first draft pick (of the opposite sex) will most likely end up being their co-captain. If requested ahead of time, drafted co-captain may accompany captain to the draft.
b) Continue with the Adam/Eve captain pairing as in years past, have both captains but no other people at draft.
c) Continue with the Adam/Eve captain pairing but instead of having to form pairs, recruit (for 20 teams) 20 male and 20 female captains and have the Captain Recruiting team match them up. This will encourage different people to captain and that those new to the captainly arts are given a veteran partner.

2) Baggage
a) Eliminate baggage entirely.
b) Eliminate only captain baggage and allow other players to baggage.
c) Eliminate all baggage with the ONLY exception being husband/wife players who want to play together due to childcare issues.
d) Keep baggage as-is with everyone allowed to baggage and captains allowed to baggage up to 16 in total rankings.

3) Rankings
a) Continue to use 1-6 ranking system.
b) Use an altered 1-7 or 1-8 system with more detail on what each level means.
c) Change ranking system to 1-8 with ranking based on 3 things - Throws/handing, defense and hands/catching.

4) Rookies
a) Have rookies automatically placed on team with their referrer. At the end of the regular draft before unattached rookie draft begins, total up all "baggaged" rookies and you have that many "passes" during the rookie part of the draft, thus eliminating the lopsided rookie situation of years past and keeping team numbers even.
b) Divide rookies up fairly ignoring their referrer.
c) Give rookies the choice of playing with their referrer or randomly assigned a team. Have a separate checkbox entry for the rookie to specify whether they want to be claimed by their referrer, explaining how if they select it they will be automatically placed on that person's team. Then, at the end of the regular draft before unattached rookie draft begins, total up all "baggaged" rookies and you have that many "passes" during the rookie part of the draft, thus eliminating the lopsided rookie situation of years past and keeping team numbers even.

5) Finals Structure
a) Continue with finals as in years past but (assuming 20 teams) have the top 16 teams play for the Summer League Championship and the bottom 4 play for the "C Pool" title.
b) Change finals so that the weekend before finals there will be preliminary round games with #1 playing #16, and so on throughout the top 16 seeds. This could be one of those weekends where 4 consecutive games are played on Saturday and Sunday at O'Hara and people come to spectate. Using the outcome of these games, the following weekend the A and B pools will be set with the appropriate reseeding. Teams 17-20 will play using the usual seeding format with a semi-final and final game.
